Bio:
I work primarily in oils in an impressionistic style, painting landscape, wildlife and still life subject matter. My work portrays places, objects, or experiences that hold personal meaning to me, things that I treasure or memorable encounters I've had with nature. Although I enjoy seeking out new places and subjects for my paintings, my inspiration is often found close to home. I've been fortunate to have lived and painted in the lush scenic beauty of Humboldt County in Northern California, as well as the contrasting high desert climate of central Oregon, where I have a home on the Deschutes River.
I earned a B.A., majoring in art, from the University of Redlands. Since then, I have continued my art education through numerous classes, workshops and affiliations with arts organizations. I am currently a member of the High Desert Art League in Bend, Oregon, the Plein Air Painters of Oregon, The Dry Canyon Community Art Center in Redmond, Oregon, the Oil Painters of America and the American Impressionist Society.
My work is available through Layor Gallery in Bend, as well as a variety of scheduled exhibitions and events.
Artist Statement:
One of my priorities in developing a painting is to give it mood and significance. It’s not enough for me to simply depict what is in front of me. I want to convey the experience of being there. All of us have been to places that appeared very ordinary one day and amazingly changed the next. That sense of a landscape or subject being transformed by atmosphere, and my response to it, is what hope to capture.
